I am sorry for the radio silence the past few days.
We had an unfortunate situation occur that has landed one of our pups on strict cage restriction for the next few months.
Scat, our young male mix pup, escaped our backyard and was hit by a car. Thankfully the people behind them stopped and gathered him up before taking him to the local vet’s office where I located him after searching for over an hour. Anyhow, Scat received multiple cuts and scrapes as well as some bruising, but this was not the worst of his injuries. Scat also has two fractures in his pelvis that are located around his ball joint. We had the choice of having a referral sent in for him to have surgery and place plates and screws to help support the joint and heal the fractures or, we could bring him home and allow him to heal on his own. The chance of it healing was 90% if we brought him home so after some discussion and taking his personality and preferences into consideration, we chose to bring him home. Scat is a very skittish dog by nature and does not trust many people due to having been abandoned by those he cared about in the past so it was best to have him home with his family so he could relax and heal. Scat is also very aggressive about kennels and cages so it works out best for him that I am home with him all day and can ease his fears of the kennel.
With everything taken into consideration, I picked him up and brought him home. Upon arriving to the vets office, Scat was muzzled due to biting all of the staff that attempted to work with him. Scat immediately licked me after the muzzle was removed. We then paid his bill, received his meds, and came home. He has since been resting peacefully and enjoying all of the extra attention that he is receiving. We have an appointment next week so that the vet can check his progress and see if there are any changes in his condition. Fingers are crossed for the best prognosis possible for this little fellow! I will definitely post more updates as we go!
